KOMKED USA

Korean Missionary Kids Education & Development Center

This is the next step in our growth. We have just set up a branch in the United States that caters to college and grad students. We would like to give young men and women an opportunity to study in the U.S. by providing them with scholarships, networks, and mentoring.

What is MK?

MK is an acronym for
“Missionary’s Kid” widely used to describe a child who follows his or her parents into a ministry which displaces the family from its home country.

The children of missionaries are
often faced with isolation,
cultural shock, and limited access
to education and healthcare.

Raising children is every parent’s
most precious and daunting responsibility.
In the mission field,
the myriad difficulties of the ministry can overwhelm parents, and we feel called to create community around these isolated families.

Won’t you join us?
Let us band around our missionaries and
their children so they are never without the support of their Christian brothers and sisters.

We invite you to pass on to the next generation
what you may have received in abundance.

From All Nations to All Nations

Mission

Our mission is
to provide education and resources
to the children of missionaries
so that they may become effective leaders
and ambassadors of the gospel.

Vision

Our vision is
to witness MK’s mature into influential
men and women of God.
We provide MK’s with the access to various educational programs and support systems
to aid with their becoming Christian thinkers
and leaders.
MK’s are a special gift to the worldwide
community of believers,
and we pray that they will be a powerful force
in shaping our culture as
Koreans and Christ-followers.

God’s incredible provision and the sacrifices of numerous congregations have allowed for Korean churches to have had an undeniable influence on global mission ministries. We ask your help in keeping the legacy alive through the next generation. If we can raise up and support MK’s, we will see that the seeds our missionaries have sown for decades were not in vain. I believe that in our lifetime, we will see the fruits of their tireless efforts borne through their children. There are over 20,000 Korean MK’s in 170 countries at this moment, and we ask for you to partner with us to support them in whatever ways you can. Our time, resources, and prayers will all become stepping stones on these children’s journeys as they navigate the world and become the next generation’s Christian leaders.

Hello! My name is Baeksok Kim, and I serve as the president of KOMKED (Korean Missionary Kids Education & Development Center). My ministry is dedicated to serving the children of missionaries in Korea and the United States.
Since 1912, Korean churches have been sending missionaries to other countries with increasing commitment. As a result, the total number of Korean missionaries spread out over 171 countries is at around 28,000 at last count. Currently, there are approximately 18,810 children who have accompanied their parents to the mission field. The Korean church body as a whole has poured in many resources and tireless energy to sending missionaries out of the country, but we have failed to take into account the associated difficulties their children face.

Since 1997, KOMKED has supported missionary kids by providing them with counseling, education, and resources. Many MKs have come out of our programs having experienced healing and true community, and it brings me so much joy to see these children grow up to be leaders and passionate followers of Jesus. MKs are a special gift to all of us, and we see in them the vision of a united Korea and the advancement of Gods kingdom on earth. We are deeply thankful for our supporters who provide much more than financial resources. Your encouragement and prayers make all the difference for our young people. We welcome the talents and efforts you share with us, and I pray that you will continue to partner with us in this valuable ministry. Thank you so much.

Our Ministry

MK Leadership Camp

We invite 160 elementary, middle, and high school students to take part in a 2-week leadership camp. The first week is geared toward corporate worship; students find healing and spiritual reawakening during this concentrated period of seeking God together. The second week is focused on travel; students will visit many historical sites and landmarks and learn about their rich history as Koreans and as Christians.

MK Leadership School

Our leadership training is for college and graduate students. We provide access to preeminent speakers and mentors in several key fields so that students can learn how to effectively network and think as Christian leaders.

College Small Groups

Our monthly meetings gather college students who have re-entered Korea from the mission field to go to university. The students find companionship and encouragement within their small groups, which are a great comfort since most of them left their families to go to school.

MK Hotline

MK’s are faced with incredible challenges in the mission field. We provide free phone counseling and online access from anywhere in the world to mental healthcare professionals as well as Christian counselors.

Korean Language Education

We provide audiobooks, textbooks, and other materials for students and families who are interested in learning or re-learning Korean in other countries.
